Job Summary

Responsible for pediatric patients during inpatient or outpatient hospital contact. Provides care through therapeutic use of self, patient activities, environment adaptation, and education of healthcare team members regarding child development and reactions to hospital stressors.

Job Requirements

• Licensure/Certification/Registration
• Required: Eligible to sit for the Child Life Certification exam if not already certified.
• Preferred: Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST).
• Skills
• Performs assessments and develops goal-directed care plans to facilitate patient outcomes.
• Evaluates effectiveness of services and self.
• Identifies educational goals for patients, families, staff, and community.
• Creates a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and families.
• Experience
• Preferred: Prior pediatric volunteer experience.
• Education
• Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Family Development or related field.
• Required: Completion of a 600-hour child life specialist internship prior to hire.
• Preferred: Degree emphasis in Child Life with a hospital internship.
