Job description

Part-time Child Life Specialist - Akron, OH

Schedule: 20 hours/week, variable days, Monday to Friday, 6 AM - 4:30 PM, onsite

Summary:

The Child Life Specialist is responsible for maximizing the physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and developmental well-being of children, while minimizing stress and trauma for children and their families.

Responsibilities:
  1. Plan and implement comprehensive Child Life services.
  2. Prepare and facilitate adaptive coping strategies for patients and families during medical procedures and healthcare experiences.
  3. Provide education and emotional support; advocate and communicate patients'/families' needs to multidisciplinary staff.
  4. Educate about child development and the impact of hospitalization.
  5. Supervise and train students and volunteers.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge and skills to care for patients' physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs across all ages.
  7. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
Technical Expertise:
  1. Experience in a clinical setting as a Child Life Specialist is preferred.
  2. Experience working with all organizational levels is required.
  3. Healthcare experience is preferred.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) required; experience with Epic or similar EMR software is preferred.
Education and Experience:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life specialization, or related field required; Master's preferred.
  2. Certification as a Child Life Specialist within one year of employment required.
  3. Current Healthcare Provider BLS training required.
  4. Completion of a 600-hour clinical Child Life internship under supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist is required.
  5. 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  6. No supervisory experience required.
