Job summary

A city organization in New Mexico is seeking a Child Care Assistant to support the teaching team in fostering a safe and conducive learning environment for children. Responsibilities include classroom assistance, maintaining order during transportation, and supporting the development of children. A High School Diploma or GED is required, and bilingual candidates are preferred. This is a safety sensitive role subject to drug testing.

Qualifications

  • Some experience working with children preferred.
  • Possession of a valid NM Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Must complete a 45-hour entry-level course in early childhood education or equivalent.

Overview

This position participates as part of the teaching team by assisting the Teacher in the smooth functioning of the classroom in order to provide an appropriate social emotional environment and to expand the child's ability to learn and grow. This position is responsible for assisting in the classroom, in the kitchen and/or maintaining safe and orderly transportation for children to and from the program facility as applicable. Classroom, center and bus assignments and routes may be changed as deemed necessary for program operations

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Some experience working with children preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
Additional Requirements
  • PossessionofavalidNMDriver\'sLicenseortheabilitytoobtainbydateofhire.
  • PossessionofaCityOperator\'sPermit(COP)withinsix(6)monthsfromdateofhire.
  • PossessionofavalidCPR,FirstAidandBLSininfant,childandadultwithinsix(6)monthsofdateof hire.
  • Mustcompletea45-hourentrylevelcourseoranapprovedthreecreditearlycareandeducation courseor equivalent approved by the New Mexico ECECD prior to or within six months of hire.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) in setting worked in (Preschool or Infant/Toddler) within 1 year of hire date.

  • Ability to follow program confidentiality policies concerning information about children, families, and other staff members.
  • Ability to understand that no individual will leave a child alone or unsupervised while under their care.
  • Ability to use positive methods of child guidance and will not engage in corporal punishment, emotional or physical abuse, or humiliation. In addition, the individual will not employ methods of discipline that involve isolation, the use of food as punishment or reward, or the denial of basic needs
