Job summary

Division Family Court Services in Merced seeks a Child Custody Recommending Counselor to mediate custody disputes and prepare court reports. You will conduct custody evaluations, interview families, and provide recommendations to the court in a timely, professional manner.

The role requires a master's degree in a related field and at least two years of experience in family counseling; a California driver’s license may be required. You will attend hearings and support court processes as needed.

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree or equivalent in social work, psychology, marriage, family and child counseling or related behavioral science.
  • Two years of experience in family and divorce counseling or psychotherapy, preferably in family conciliation settings.
  • Valid California driver's license; some positions may require it.

Responsibilities

  • Mediate custody/visitation disputes and seek settlements in the child's best interest.
  • Conduct court-ordered custody evaluations under applicable rules and prepare reports.
  • Interview parents, children and collateral parties; prepare reports and recommendations for the court.
  • Attend hearings and testify as required; maintain case records and statistics.
  • Coordinate with agencies and conduct education classes on divorce and child custody topics.
