Discovery Point - Mooresville is seeking a temporary/backup Cook for our Child Care Center. The role prepares meals and snacks for enrolled children, ensuring meals are ready at scheduled times and prepared according to health and safety methods.

The position may assist in classrooms as needed and supports a floating teacher. Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma and food-safety certifications, with flexibility for a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma required or equivalent.
• ServSafe Certification required or must obtain.
• Food Handling Certification required or willing to obtain.
• Child Care Background Check required.
• Must meet state licensing requirements for education and experience.
• Cooking experience: 3 years (Required); childcare cooking: 1 year (Required).

Responsibilities

• Prepares meals and snacks according to approved menu and schedule, ensuring health and safety standards.
• Maintains inventory and assists with food orders.
• Label and store food items; follow health, safety, and OSHA guidelines.
• Keep master menu and inform parents of menu changes.
• Prepare meals for children with dietary restrictions/allergies.
• Clean up after meals, sanitize dishes, and cookware.
• Perform routine kitchen maintenance and report needs to Director.
• Interact with children and families in a friendly, supportive manner.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as requested.
• May assist in classrooms when needed.

Child Care Center Cook

Job Summary:

We are looking for a temporary/backup cook and a floating teacher. Prepares meals and snacks for the children enrolled in the Center ensuring that meals and snacks are ready at scheduled times. Prepares and serves food according to proper health and safety methods. May assist in classroom when necessary.

Essential Functions/Job Responsibilities:

• Prepares meals and snacks according to approved menu & posted schedule, and distributes food ensuring health and safety standards are met.


• Maintains inventory of food; calculates appropriate amounts of food needed, assists with ordering as directed.


• Properly labels and stores all food items; follows all health and safety related and/or OSHA guidelines.


• Maintains required records of meal and snacks; maintains master menu, including making approved menu changes when directed and keeping parents informed of menu changes.


• Prepare meals for children who have dietary restrictions / allergies


• Performs clean up duties after meals and snacks including food clean-up, washing/sanitizing dishes, utensils, and cookware.


• Performs routine kitchen related maintenance and notifies Director about maintenance needed if not performed.


• Interacts with children, and families, being friendly and supportive, following company procedures and state guidelines on the supervision of children.


• Reports suspected abuse or neglect as mandated by state regulations.


• Attends all staff meetings, training sessions, meetings and programs as requested by the Director.


• Performs other duties as requested by Director


• May assist in classrooms as needed.
