The Sacramento Crisis Nursery is a family-strengthening program offering emergency childcare and overnight care for children ages 0-5 during family crises. Our mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect by supporting families in need.

Overview

The Child Care Worker I or II, supervised by the Crisis Nursery Supervisor and guided by the Lead Childcare Worker, assists with child care and supervision, ensuring children's health, safety, and basic needs are met, and household standards are maintained.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure children's safety at all times.
  • Supervise and care for children individually and in groups.
  • Assist children with group activities and individual issues.
  • Administer discipline and set behavioral limits.
  • Document children's progress and communicate needs to professional staff.
  • Administer medications accurately as prescribed.
  • Provide direct care, including diapering, bathing, feeding, and discipline.
  • Monitor for signs of illness and report significant changes.
  • Interact with children during intake and discharge processes.
  • Apply crisis intervention techniques when necessary.
  • Prepare meals and snacks, serve family style.
  • Perform household tasks: cleaning, laundry, organizing, inventory, bed making, sanitizing.
  • Implement developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Communicate any issues promptly and support problem-solving.
  • Support children during transitions and activities.
  • Provide transportation as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the nursery environment.
  • Complete required documentation per policies and regulations.
  • Cover for Lead and Awake Childcare workers as directed.
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers.
  • Attend training and meetings as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Location and Schedule

Location: 4533 Pasadena Ave., Sacramento, CA 95821

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm, with mandatory Wednesday staff meeting from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.

Qualifications
Child Care Worker I ($21.13 - $23.77)

High school diploma or GED required. Completion of 12 semester units in Early Childhood Education or related fields preferred. Six months of experience in a licensed care setting is preferred. A degree in related fields is advantageous. Valid driver’s license, insurance, and minimum age of 21 are required.

Child Care Worker II ($19.78 - $22.25)

High school diploma or GED required. Six months of relevant experience preferred. Degree in related fields is advantageous. Valid driver’s license, insurance, and minimum age of 21 are required.
