Job Summary
Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Supervise children (ages 1 – 5+) at all times, maintaining a secure, safe environment for children to play and learn in.
  • Organize child snack distribution and clean up.
  • Watch for signs of emotional stress and contact the parent via text if necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Change diapers/ toilet‑train children where necessary.
  • Participate in dismissal procedures at the end of after‑care, ensuring that each child leaves with the appropriate adult (i.e., an authorized adult).
  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Support and adhere to the policies and procedures of the parish and Archdiocese of San Antonio.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
  • Maintain a stimulating and varied schedule of activities appropriate for the students in a well‑ordered environment.
  • Clean and disinfect items used prior to the end of the shift.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Director.
  • Keep a copy of medical and emergency records and first aid kit on hand daily.
  • Ensure that during the hours of operation there is at least one staff member trained in CPR/First Aid.

  • Required to work some nights and weekends.
  • Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress.
  • Required to work in standard nursery conditions.
Mental/Physical Demands
  • Required to lift or carry supplies and students (up to 30 lbs.).
  • Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of anger.
  • Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis.
  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks.
  • Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with noise and activity.
  • Be able to adapt to continuously changing, fast‑paced environment and make the children’s needs the primary focus.
Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director.

Position Requirements
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CDA credential preferred.
Experience
  • At least 18 years old.
  • One (1) year of experience in a childcare setting.
Other Requirements
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Be a team player.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (can be obtained during job training).
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening.
