Join to apply for the Child Care Staff role at GLOW YMCA, Inc.

Seeking a substitute ChildWatch Staff for AM shifts Mondays through Friday from 9 am to 11:30 am and PM shifts Monday through Thursday 4-7:30 pm; and seasonally Saturday shifts from 8-11 am. Hours are subject to change. ChildWatch Staff minimum requirement: 18 years of age or older. Experience working with kids, a fun, energetic, team player attitude, creativity, and love for children are essential. Hourly pay is minimum wage.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Implements curriculum within established guidelines.
  2. Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  3. Supervises children, classroom, and all activities.
  4. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  5. Conducts parent conferences and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
  6. Engages parents as volunteers.
  7. Maintains program site and equipment.
  8. Maintains required program records.
  9. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  10. Works to promote the physical, intellectual, social, cultural, and emotional well-being of children.
  11. Works with staff to plan and implement activities.
  12. Provides direct leadership to assigned groups and maintains constant visual contact with all children.
  13. Participates in daily activities and assists children with tasks, including land and water-based activities.
  14. Assesses child abilities and developmental stages.
  15. Builds enthusiasm for activities and programs.
  16. Completes documentation regarding attendance, health, wellness, sign-in/out, etc.
  17. Notifies parents if children are absent.
  18. Keeps the program areas neat and organized.
  19. Follows all safety procedures and regulations.
  20. Maintains positive relationships with children, parents, partners, and staff.
  21. Projects a positive image of the YMCA and the daycare program.
  22. Adheres to work site requirements regarding punctuality, dress, meetings, etc.
  23. Assists in recruitment and special events; works at YMCA Camp Days and other locations as scheduled.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Meets educational and experience qualifications per state law.
  • School Age Child Care Clearance per NYS regulations.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 60 days of hire.
  • Experience working with children preferred.
  • Ability to plan and implement age-appropriate activities.
  • Experience with diverse populations and building positive relationships.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities; vision, hearing, speech, and movement abilities necessary for supervision of children.
