Job summary

Hamilton County Schools is seeking a dedicated School Age Child Care (SACC) staff member to provide supervised care and a safe, nurturing environment before and after school, during summer, and at other scheduled times. The role requires patience, strong communication, and the ability to work collaboratively with school staff and families.

The position involves planning age-appropriate activities, maintaining safety procedures, handling basic first aid, and ensuring confidentiality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous child care or early childhood experience preferred.
• Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervised care and a safe, nurturing environment for before/after school and summer programs.
• Plan and participate in activities appropriate to each age group.
• Monitor safety, enforce procedures, and report hazards to supervisor.
• Communicate with stakeholders and keep records as required.
• Respond to emergencies with basic first aid and document incidents where applicable.
• Perform opening/closing procedures and routine cleaning/maintenance.
• Travel to other school locations as directed by supervisors.

HCS - SACC

To provide supervised care and a positive environment for children enrolled in the School Age Child Care Program.

Responsibilities

• Acts in a professional, respectful, courteous and caring manner at all times.
• Creates a customer-focused climate and provides quality services and support to school and other stakeholders.
• Complies with applicable district, state, and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
• Provides supervised care, monitors children’s activities, and provides a safe, nurturing environment for children enrolled in the School Age Child Care Program before school, after school, during summer vacation, or at other scheduled times.
• Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors areas occupied by children to ensure safety of students, employees, and other individuals; removes any hazards from child care environment; disposes of biohazardous materials per established procedures; reports potentially hazardous or dangerous situations to supervisor.
• Plans, coordinates, conducts, and/or participates in various indoor/outdoor activities for children appropriate to each age group.
• Provides care and activities for students needing special accommodations with appropriate adaptations.
• Communicates through the proper channels to keep supervisor and other appropriate personnel informed of impending problems or events of unusual nature.
• Responds to emergency situations; provides first aid or basic medical care to ill/injured children; determines need to call emergency personnel; dispenses required medication as directed and completes medication logs; notifies parents of injuries/illnesses; completes accident reports as required.
• Processes various documentation associated with child care activities.
• Monitors inventory levels of supplies and food items and initiates requests for new/replacement items.
• Follow established procedures to ensure assigned areas are safe.
• Works collaboratively with all stakeholders.
• Attends work and arrives to work on time.
• Maintains confidentiality.
• Travels to other school locations as directed by area supervisors based on staffing needs and efficient operation of Child Care Program.
• Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law and the Code of Professional Conduct Board Policy.
• Attends required training and meetings as needed.
• Use computers and other technology to enter and access information related to essential job functions.
• Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks.
• Performs opening and closing procedures.
• Provides assistance to other employees and site locations as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Education/Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous experience in child care or early childhood education preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Must obtain and maintain a valid CPR and First Aid Certification

Skills/Qualifications

• Ability to develop and maintain a positive relationship with supervisors, principal, employees, children, parents, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to use approved disciplinary strategies when a child’s (or children) behavior is not appropriate.
• Ability to assess a situation and use good judgment to resolve situations.
• Must be 18 years of age

Compensation

$17.60/hour
