Job summary

The Salvation Army in Wisconsin seeks a full-time kitchen assistant to prepare and serve meals for children in our Child Care Center. You will plan snacks and lunches per CACFP, manage food quantities, and maintain records while ensuring sanitation and licensing compliance.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • ServSafe or sanitation certification within first four months.
  • CPR and First Aid within first three months.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License with insurance clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan menus for snacks and lunches per CACFP within budget.
  • Estimate food quantities based on number of children.
  • Acquire food items and supplies.
  • Ensure sanitation and proper maintenance of utensils.
  • Maintain records: expenditures, monthly menus, production, participation, and income statements.
  • Coordinate kitchen use with Worship and Community Center.
  • Participate in staff training and meetings.

Job description

Job Objective: Responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals for children in the Child Care Center in Fox Cities.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan menus for snacks and lunches for enrolled children, according to CACFP requirements and guidelines, within budget and time constraints.
  • Estimate amount of food needed in relation to number of children and serving sizes.
  • Acquire necessary food items and supplies.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and proper maintenance of utensils and dishes.
  • Maintain preparation and service of food, proper sanitation, and health standards in compliance with all applicable CACFP, State of Wisconsin and local laws and regulations.
  • Prepare lunches and snacks for children and adults.
  • Serve lunches to children, prep and set up snack carts.
  • Maintain proper records and submit to Director:
    • Daily expenditures of food, equipment, and supply purchases
    • Monthly menus, in advance
    • Monthly food production records, utilizing CACFP forms.
    • Maintain monthly participation records - snack and lunch counts.
    • Maintain Household Size Income Statements
  • Maintain kitchen in compliance with licensing regulations.
  • Coordinate use of kitchen with Worship and Community Center.
  • Participate in ongoing staff training through in-service training, staff meetings, orientation, and other so designated programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:Prior experience in a commercial culinary kitchen is preferred but not required.

Certifications:

  • ServSafe or sanitation certification required within first four months of employment.
  • CPR and First Aid required within first three months of employment.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License with clearance to drive from The Salvation Army’s insurance carrier.

Non-Exempt Employees: Health, dental, vision, and hearing benefits, as well as basic and voluntary life benefits, will begin on the first day of the month following 90 days of employment. If the completion of a 90-day waiting period occurs on the first day of the calendar month, coverage will begin on that day.
