About the Center

The South Dakota Human Services Center, a behavioral health hospital located in Yankton, provides services in adult acute psychiatric care, psychiatric rehabilitation, substance use disorder treatment, geriatrics, and adolescent patients. We are seeking a board-eligible/board-certified Psychiatrist to serve adolescent patients.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosis of patients
• Establishing and directing treatment plans for adolescent patients
• Serving as a member of a treatment team to review and determine prescribed treatment
• Prescribing medication for patients
• Monitoring therapeutic progress of patients
• Instructing medical students in treatment methodology and evaluating their work
• Providing consultations as requested

Licenses and Certifications

Must be licensed to practice medicine in South Dakota.

Knowledge and Skills

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of:

• Methods and principles of medicine
• Diagnosis, care, and treatment of patients with mental illness, including adolescents
• Recent research and developments in psychiatry
• Principles and procedures of inpatient treatment
• Psychiatric evaluation of patients
• Psychotropic medications

Ability to:

• Diagnose and classify mental disorders using DSM criteria
• Write psychiatric evaluation reports and discharge summaries
• Prescribe and monitor medications
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
• Communicate effectively in writing and orally
