Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor’s degree in a mental health discipline or Social Work preferred; training will be provided in lieu of a degree.
• Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in child and adolescent populations.
• Knowledge of growth and development of child/adolescent consumers as related to development.
• Knowledge of play therapy, behavior management, crisis intervention and non-violent crisis intervention practices.
• Knowledge of family dynamics and parenting issues.
• Knowledge of effects and treatment of abuse and neglect issues.
• Knowledge of community resources as applied to child/adolescent.
• Knowledge of cultural diversity.
• Knowledge of educational methods appropriate to child/adolescent population.
• Knowledge of basic interventions for child and adolescent mental and behavioral health disorders.

Responsibilities

• Provides ongoing monitoring of consumers and completes documentation related to monitoring/observations.
• Engages consumers to ensure their safety, needs are met, and participation in planned activities.
• Assists consumer with personal hygiene issues, medical appointments, chores, recreational activities and safety issues.
• Provides support to teachers during class time and assists with class assignments.
• Ensures unit schedules are followed and encourages participation in activities.
• Performs hand-off communication at shift change.
• Provides training on Basic Living Skills according to treatment goals and documents accordingly.
• Leads program groups and activities to engage consumers in treatment.
• Completes Environment of Care unit checklists and reports findings to supervisor.
• Ensures consumers receive meals and confirms information on meal count sheet.
• Works with nursing, therapy and recreation staff for milieu management.
• Responds to crisis situations using proper interventions.
• Maintains neat and functional units and common areas.

Education
