About Pinecrest Consulting:
At Pinecrest Consulting, we're more than just a team—we're a community. Recently ranked the #1 Top Workplace among small businesses by The Dallas Morning News, we are a fast-growing company providing innovative solutions in group health benefits, payroll, tax services, and workers' compensation insurance.
We are now seeking a VP of Engineering to lead our technology strategy, build out our engineering capabilities, and drive innovation across our business. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who is equally passionate about technology and business, and ready to help scale a company in hypergrowth mode.
About the Role:
As the VP of Engineering, you’ll set the strategic direction for our technology, guide our product development, and lead a lean, talented engineering team. You’ll have the opportunity to architect and build systems from the ground up, improve internal operations, and ensure we scale securely and efficiently.
This role requires a hands-on technical leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys solving real-world business problems with code, and is excited to shape the future of Pinecrest through smart, scalable technology.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead the company’s overall technology vision, roadmap, and architecture in alignment with business goals.
- Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, autonomy, and collaboration.
- Collaborate with leadership and functional heads to identify inefficiencies and design technical solutions that drive operational improvements.
- Oversee software development across internal tools, client platforms, and integrations with third-party systems.
- Ensure data security, system scalability, HIPAA compliance, and infrastructure resilience.
- Design, develop, and deploy new applications from scratch—this is a builder’s role.
- Maintain and refactor legacy codebases, streamline workflows, and introduce automation where possible.
- Manage vendor relationships, technology partners, and SaaS platforms to optimize infrastructure and operations.
- Stay on top of emerging technologies and implement those that strengthen our competitive advantage.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven success as a technical lead, preferably in consulting, insurance, or fast-growth SaaS environments.
- Expertise in full-stack development, with deep hands-on experience in TypeScript, Node.js, React/Next.js, SQL/Postgres, and ORMs like Prisma or Drizzle.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS), DevOps (CI/CD, Docker, Git workflows), and Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Pulumi or SST.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and experience managing sensitive data, ideally in HIPAA-compliant environments.
- Strong understanding of system architecture, software design patterns, and scalability.
- Ability to balance big-picture thinking with hands-on execution.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills—able to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Bonus Skills (Not Required but Nice to Have):
- Familiarity with data engineering tools (Pandas, Knime, Alteryx).
- Exposure to machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, scikit-learn).
- Background in building customer-facing tools or internal operations platforms.
Why Join Pinecrest Consulting?
- Join a Top Workplace where innovation, culture, and people come first.
- Work on impactful projects with real business outcomes and national reach.
- Enjoy the autonomy to build and the support to scale—no red tape.
- Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits, including 401(k) with matching and equity participation.
- Be part of a high-growth company shaping the future of employee benefits, fintech, and insurance.
