Qualifications

  • Licensed attorney in good standing in Illinois.
  • At least 5 years of licensed practice (Illinois or another state).
  • Demonstrated experience in representing persons accused of crime.
  • Demonstrated administrative experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead statewide public defense system to ensure constitutionally required representation.
  • Direct and oversee statewide operations of the Office of the State Public Defender.
  • Draft and effectuate trial level public defense standards; supervise training.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to improve public defense availability and resources.
  • Ensure high-quality representation and accessibility for all clients.
