Job summary

Travere Therapeutics seeks a Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) to lead scientific strategy and external engagement across discovery to commercialization. The CSO reports to the EVP, Head of Research & Development and CMO, and serves as a key member of the Executive Team and Board of Directors.

The CSO will guide the Head of Research and Head of Technical Operations, shaping long-term scientific strategy, investments, and external partnerships while driving innovation and organizational excellence

Qualifications

• Advanced scientific degree required (M.D./Ph.D./M.D.-Ph.D./Pharm.D. or equivalent).
• 17+ years of biotechnology/pharmaceutical leadership experience, especially in rare diseases.
• Deep scientific expertise in nephrology, immunology, metabolic diseases and related rare disease areas.
• Ability to communicate a vision for research and influence stakeholders including board and investors.
• Experience leading research organizations and translating discovery into development opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior scientific advisor to Executive Team and Board, informing portfolio and strategy.
• Shape portfolio strategy by integrating scientific and technical considerations.
• Articulate the company’s scientific vision, strategy, and long-term roadmap to stakeholders.
• Define long-term scientific strategy and identify opportunities and external innovations.
• Oversee Research and Technical Operations leadership and budget stewardship.
• Lead external engagement with investigators, scientific societies, and partners.
• Evaluate external opportunities, including licensing, collaborations, and in-licensing.
• Build and evolve a world-class research organization across multiple scientific domains.
• Plan succession and leadership development to strengthen teams.
• Travel up to 20% domestically and internationally as required.
