Arphia Partners Ltd. seeks a Consultant / Fractional Chief Scientific Officer to drive a first-in-class CNS programme through preclinical development into IND/FIH stages. The role involves interpreting complex data, shaping translational strategy, and unifying workstreams with external CROs and SMEs.

The initial engagement is fractional, with at least ~20 hours per month, based on Boston access on the East Coast. The relationship could develop into a permanent CSO in the future.

Consultant Chief Scientific Officer | CNS / Translational Medicine | USA

Following our recent trip to the US, Arphia Partners are working with an exciting early-stage biotech looking to appoint a Consultant / Fractional Chief Scientific Officer as they prepare to move a novel, first-in-class CNS programme towards the clinic.

This is not a passive advisory position.

We’re looking for an experienced scientific leader who can work closely with the CEO to help interpret complex preclinical data, shape the translational strategy and oversee the progression of the programme towards IND / first-in-human development.

The company already has access to specialist external expertise across areas including DMPK, toxicology and CMC. The CSO needs to sit above this structure — providing scientific direction, challenging external partners and bringing the different workstreams together into a coherent development strategy.

We’re particularly interested in people with:

• Deep CNS / neuroscience and translational medicine expertise
• Experience taking novel programmes from preclinical development into FIH clinical studies
• Strong understanding of complex animal models and interpretation of preclinical data
• Experience working within early-stage / first-in-class biotech environments
• Experience directing CROs and external scientific SMEs
• The credibility to engage with investors and represent the scientific strategy externally
• Experience relating to brain lipids and/or pathways involved in delivering therapeutics to the brain would be particularly interesting.

The initial engagement will be part-time/fractional, with the expectation that the relationship could develop as the company raises further capital and progresses towards the clinic.

Commitment / Expectations:

• East Coast US - need to be able to get to Boston easily
• Fractional / Consulting – initial commitment expected from c.20+ hours per month
• Initial 12-month requirement anticipated
• Potential to transition into a permanent CSO position

This is an unusual opportunity to become genuinely embedded within a very early-stage company and have a significant influence over how a novel CNS programme makes the transition from preclinical science into human development.
