Position Overview:

The Chief Pharmacy Officer is a highly visible, system-level position with accountability to lead, direct and execute Sutter’s pharmacy strategic plan, encompassing the vision for pharmacy clinical services, specialty pharmacy services, centralized logistics, centralized order verification, centralized automation and analytics, 340b program, operations and IS support. The role oversees the management and operations over the $1 Billion+ health-system pharmaceutical supply chain business, the approximately $300M system specialty pharmacy business, the standardization of the clinical, operational and logistics services at the inpatient, home infusion, outpatient infusion, and all ambulatory sites. The site pharmacy directors have a reporting relationship through divisional leaders to the role to ensure the leader is able to standardize clinical, operational services and centralize/consolidate where appropriate and drive system level results. The Chief Pharmacy Officer also ensures that pharmaceutical services are provided to patients with a consistently high level of safety, quality, cost effectiveness and customer service. The Chief Pharmacy Officer also leads the system P&T committee to develop a standardized formulary for the organization, as well as identification of safety and clinical effectiveness opportunities. The incumbent also serves as the leader/sponsor for system-wide pharmacy initiatives including standardization of logistics, operations, clinical and safety programs. This position serves a key role in facilitating communication to the senior leadership and operations leadership team and site CEOs. The Chief Pharmacy Officer works closely with nursing and physician leadership to develop an integrated model for clinical and operational aspects of the pharmacy business line. In addition, this individual is a member of the System Leadership Team and is expected to be exemplary in demonstrating Sutter Health’s vision, values and behavioral/leadership expectations.

Job Description:

Education/Certification/Licensure

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required.
• Masters of Business or Healthcare Administration preferred.
• CA Board eligible at the time of hire. CA Licensure to be obtained within 12 months of start date.

Experience

• A minimum of 10 plus years experience overseeing multiple inpatient/ambulatory pharmacy operations across multiple sites of care.
• Experience in a health system integrating services across multiple sites.
• Experience with providing clinical skills to appreciate the implementation of these services.
• Experience with distribution of medications, to understand the issues related to the distribution of medications.
• Experience working in a healthcare system with multiple hospitals and medical groups.

Knowledge

• Mastery of state and federal laws associated with pharmacy operations including drug diversion prevention and reporting.
• Thorough understanding of 340b program laws and processes.

Pay Range is $173.68 to $234.98 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
