Job summary

Harvard University seeks an accomplished HR executive to serve as Vice President for Human Resources. This leader will set the strategic vision for HR across the University, oversee ~6,000 employees, and partner with school HR leaders to build a unified, high-performing function.

The VPHR will modernize policies, advance a service-oriented culture, attract and develop talent, and mentor a team of six direct reports.

Qualifications

• Experience as the senior-most HR leader in a highly matrixed or decentralized organization of similar scale, complexity, and mission orientation is strongly preferred.
• A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree in human resources, business, organizational development, higher education administration, law, public administration, or a related field is preferred.
• Relevant professional certifications or equivalent executive experience in complex, mission-driven organizations will also be considered.

Responsibilities

• Set the strategic vision for HR across the University and lead the central HR organization.
• Oversee employment lifecycle, resources, and workforce analytics to support Harvard’s teaching, research, and administration.
• Mentor, develop, and elevate a high-performing HR team and foster a culture of respect, inclusion, accountability, and belonging.
