Job summary

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot rail flaw detection equipment used for ultrasonic track inspection.
• Perform ultrasonic testing of railroad tracks to identify and evaluate potential defects.
• Manage all aspects of the flaw detection process: setup, data collection, analysis, documentation, and reporting.
• Ensure inspection activities comply with company procedures, customer requirements, and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate records of inspection results, equipment performance, and maintenance activities.
• Review and communicate inspection findings with customers and internal teams.
• Support customer relationships by understanding project objectives and delivering reliable inspection services.
• Participate in ongoing training to stay current with evolving testing methods and technology.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

As a Chief Operator, you will play a critical role in supporting rail safety across the United States. You will lead the operation of specialized ultrasonic rail flaw detection equipment, perform detailed track examinations, and ensure inspection data is collected accurately and reported effectively.

Working in diverse environments, from major transportation corridors to remote rail locations, you will help identify potential rail defects before they impact safety and reliability. Your expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to quality will directly contribute to protecting the infrastructure that keeps communities and industries moving.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot rail flaw detection equipment used for ultrasonic track inspection.
• Perform ultrasonic testing of railroad tracks to identify and evaluate potential defects.
• Manage all aspects of the flaw detection process, including equipment setup, data collection, analysis, documentation, and reporting.
• Ensure inspection activities are completed in accordance with company procedures, customer requirements, and applicable industry safety standards.
• Maintain accurate records of inspection results, equipment performance, and maintenance activities.
• Review and communicate inspection findings with customers and internal teams.
• Support customer relationships by understanding project objectives and delivering reliable inspection services.
• Participate in ongoing training to stay current with evolving testing methods, technology, and industry requirements.
• Promote a strong safety culture by following all company, customer, and regulatory safety procedures.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• Previous experience operating ultrasonic rail flaw detection equipment, or working in a similar rail inspection role.
• Strong knowledge of ultrasonic testing processes and railroad inspection practices.
• Valid driver's license (CDL/Class 1 considered an asset).
• Strong technical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot specialized equipment.
• Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

• Passport or ability to travel internationally is considered an asset.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Extensive travel throughout the United States.
• Field-based work in a variety of geographic and weather conditions.
• Work is typically completed in the field; however, some office, customer visits, and meetings will be required as needed.
• Shifts between 8-12 hours per day, 5 - 6 days per week, and may range from three weeks up to three months in duration. Scheduling considers individual circumstances.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent sitting, standing, climbing, walking, and bending throughout the day.
