Job summary

The Children’s Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) seeks a visionary Chief Operating Officer to guide the organization through a defining period of growth and a new landmark museum. The COO will partner with the CEO and leadership to mature operations, scale staff and budget, and ensure organizational excellence across all departments.

Leading a broad operations team, the COO will oversee visitor services, HR, IT, security, and maintenance while driving system-wide efficiency, equity, and high-impact

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of executive operating experience in a nonprofit/cultural/public-facing setting.
  • 5+ years of senior executive management experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience scaling organizations and professionalizing complex operations during growth.
  • Proven ability to make rapid, high-stakes operational decisions with sound judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary strategic partner to the CEO and translate vision into scalable operational strategies.
  • Oversee all functions of operations and manage an expanding team across locations.
  • Develop and manage budgets to support growth and new museum transition.
  • Lead technology and people operations to improve efficiency and equity across staff.
  • Design staffing and deployment models for the scaled, new facility.
