Job summary

City of Hope is seeking an accomplished healthcare executive to lead hospital operations with emphasis on oncology program oversight, patient care quality, and strategic growth. The role partners with the Market President and senior leadership to implement plans, policies and programs across the center.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorâs degree in healthcare, business or related field.
  • 10 Years of progressive management experience in a hospital environment.
  • Knowledgeable of Joint Commission, state and federal guidelines, regulations and standards as they apply to life safety and healthcare.
  • Knowledge of nursing systems, quality improvement processes, project management, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees integration of hospital operations with the operating plan and surfaces external business opportunities.
  • Drives high-quality care delivery and cost-effective facility management.
  • Leads hospital-wide patient care programs, policies, and procedures ensuring patient needs are met.
  • Identifies opportunities to grow patient acquisition and retention and partners with leadership to implement initiatives.
  • Champions data-driven process improvements and collaborates with physician leadership to ensure quality and safety.

Overview
  • Ensures that activities and/or operations of the medical center and outpatient care clinics are appropriately integrated with the operating plan and suitable external business opportunities are surfaced and activated.
  • Ensures the delivery of high quality care and services through the cost effective management of the facilities.
  • Drives and participates in the development of hospital wide patient care programs, policies, and procedures that dictate how the care needs of the center’s patient populations are assessed, evaluated, and met.
  • Participates in design, development and execution of programs, policies, procedures, and initiatives that drive patient acquisition and retention.
  • Develops and nurtures an environment that implements effective and ongoing programs to measure, assess, and improve the quality of care and services provided to patients and caregivers. Implements operational improvements using appropriate data, best practices, and benchmarking in conjunction with effective use of process improvement techniques.
  • Identifies local business opportunities and partnerships that provide a means of increasing patient acquisition, service line utilization and patient retention.
  • Serves as a key advisor and aid of the Market President in establishing and executing strategic business plans to achieve operational objectives and in formulating and implementing best practices and policies.
Operating Results
  • Oversees the operations of the oncology program.
  • Formulates long range objectives, plans, and programs for all departments that are consistent with overall hospital objectives.
  • Develops short range goals for all areas and establishes budgetary guidelines by which goals can be achieved.
  • Actively engages in prospecting for incremental business in key services lines. Partners with administrative and physician leadership to oversee the procurement of hospital materials, supplies, equipment, systems, and services in accordance with quality, cost and scheduling of the various departments.
  • Participates in the contracting process with vendors and physicians.
  • Assists in the selection of medical staff members and operational oversight of the oncology physician group to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Leverages systems and resources to optimize communication of important organizational messages to leadership, physicians, employees and outside partners.
  • Serves as acting President to cover for absence and makes financial decisions on behalf of the President for patient exceptions.

  • Identifies and develops successors and talent pools for key positions, including own role.
  • Aligns the organization according to the COH operating plan and monitors progress; institutes scalable and sustainable infrastructures and processes and to enable long term business growth.
  • Champions the strategic planning process and ensures alignment with enterprise wide goals and initiatives.
  • Identifies critical goals and success factors in different functions; supports direct reports in achieving objectives.
Relationships
  • Communicates a common strategic vision that cascades through the organization and links to all team goals.
  • Influences through and across multiple internal layers to achieve operational excellence and strategic alignment.
  • Establishes and fosters influential, constructive relationships with the community, key business partners and the Board of Directors, built on a free flow of information.

  • Leads operational efforts to drive incremental patient growth.
  • Partners with physicians to identify and act on opportunities to grow and optimize service lines.
  • Integrates efforts across business units in the organization and takes responsibility for strategic implementation.
  • Involves key players in process and plans and allows for open communication, rewards positive results.

  • Strong orientation toward service excellence. Effectively motivates and coaches staff in COH standards of excellence.
  • Communicates the COH Mission, Vision, Values and Behaviors with key partners outside the organization.

Requirements
