Job summary

The City of Kirkland seeks an experienced municipal leader to serve as Deputy City Manager of Operations (DCMO). This executive leads city operations, partners with the City Manager, and ensures coordinated service delivery across departments.

The DCMO fosters an inclusive, high-performing culture, represents the City Manager when needed, and drives complex citywide initiatives to a successful conclusion for Kirkland and its residents.

Qualifications

• Ten years of increasingly responsible experience in local government is required.
• Deep knowledge of the municipal services Kirkland provides and political environment.
• Prior leadership experience overseeing complex services, programs, and projects is required.
• A bachelor’s degree in public administration or a closely related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive-level leadership in the management of City operations and coordinate across departments.
• Act as City Manager when required and lead citywide initiatives requiring collaboration with partners.
• Foster a high-performing, inclusive culture and mentor department directors and staff.

Education

Bachelor's degree in public administration or related field

Master's degree preferred
