Job summary

NEO Energy is seeking a seasoned Chief Operating Officer to lead ongoing operations for power and renewables projects in the United States. Reporting to the CEO, you will build the operating engine, scale field operations, and ensure safe, on-time delivery of utility-scale solar, storage, and transmission initiatives.

Job description

Company - EPC within Power and Renewables

Location - Mixed - United States - Travel/Remote/Office

Reporting to the CEO, the COO will own operational execution while building the people, systems, processes, and culture required for rapid growth. This is an opportunity for a proven construction leader to build the operating engine from the ground up and make a lasting impact on critical energy and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build & Scale Operations: Develop scalable systems, processes, project controls, and field operations infrastructure that enable growth quickly without compromising execution.
  • Drive Project Excellence: Lead end-to-end delivery of utility-scale solar and storage, high-voltage transmission and substations, and mission-critical electrical projects—safely, on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Lead People & Labor: Build and develop high-performing operations and field teams while strengthening IBEW relationships, workforce planning, craft development, and union labor practices.
  • Own Performance & Profitability: Partner with the CEO and finance leadership on P&L performance, forecasting, resource allocation, productivity, cost control, and working capital to drive profitable growth.
  • Shape the Future: Partner with the CEO on strategy, market expansion, client relationships, estimating and pursuits, while establishing a culture of accountability, safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive construction leadership experience, with significant senior operational responsibility in renewable energy, high-voltage/transmission, electrical contracting, or mission-critical/data center construction.
  • Proven ability to build and scale operations in a high-growth, entrepreneurial, or startup-like environment, ideally within an IBEW or unionized contractor organization.
  • Deep technical and field expertise across utility-scale solar/storage, high-voltage transmission and substations, and/or mission-critical electrical systems.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, including experience managing multi-million-dollar project portfolios, operational budgets, forecasting, and P&L performance.
  • Exceptional leader and operator with a strong safety mindset, proven union labor relations skills, excellent communication, and the willingness to be hands‑on in the field and travel as needed.
