Overview

POSITION TITLE: Chief Operating Officer

STATUS: Full Time, Exempt

ANNUAL SALARY: Starting at $230,000 per year

LOCATION: Remote

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Approximately 50% travel to health centers in MI or nationally, as needed.

Position Description: The Chief Operating Officer will provide strategic visioning, planning and operational leadership to ensure continued growth of affiliate client base, market share, revenue, and visual presence in the community. This role leads multiple departments including Patient Care Operations, Revenue Cycle, Purchasing, Data Analytics, Compliance, Quality and Risk Management, and collaborates with facility functions. The role also serves as a high level ambassador representing the affiliate, incorporating the fund development and advocacy agenda into day-to-day operations. The leader will embody a commitment to race equity in interactions with PPMI colleagues, external stakeholders and staff supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee operational, customer service and clinical excellence within the Affiliate’s financial expectations; work to improve fiscal performance.
  • Provide leadership for performance improvement across all health centers; ensure centers meet performance goals while maintaining excellent patient care and customer service.
  • Represent the Affiliate in relationships with MSO, funding organizations, donors/volunteers/clients, government agencies, and healthcare institutions.
  • Maintain affiliate values and mission in client, staff and community interactions; coach staff to uphold these values.
  • Serve as Affiliate Compliance Officer; lead Compliance, Quality and Risk Management to ensure adherence to CQRM Program and funder requirements, including healthcare fraud prevention and mitigation.
  • Promote race equity; stay informed of PPMI equity initiatives and hold teams accountable.
  • Manage and mentor a culturally diverse team and foster an inclusive organizational culture.
  • Participate as a member of PPMI’s Leadership Team; implement a performance support process with goal setting and ongoing development.
  • Empower staff to deliver assigned responsibilities; provide regular development feedback and accountability for equity practices.
  • Coordinate development of medical services long-range and annual business plans; initiate improvements as needed.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new services and strategic partnerships to expand medical and educational services.
  • Develop and monitor agency performance metrics with the CFO; report to the CEO and agency leadership.
  • Establish and review medical service protocols with Clinical Services Leadership Team and Chief Medical Officer; ensure quality assurance and risk management structures.
  • Maintain effective communication with the CEO and CFO on operational issues; manage relationships with managed services organizations supporting IEHR, Patient Access and Revenue Cycle Management.
  • Act as primary contact for MDHHS and the Title X Family Planning Program; attend conferences and meetings to stay informed on field developments.
  • Coordinate operating and capital budgets; monitor monthly financial statements and take corrective action as required.
  • Ensure division operates in compliance with all applicable laws; complete onboarding and required trainings; support accountability and task ownership across staff.

Qualifications and Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of executive management experience partnering with CEO, Board, community stakeholders and senior managers.
  • Strong operations experience, preferably in healthcare operations, with progressive leadership responsibility.
  • Proven ability to drive revenue growth through business and personnel decisions; strong budgeting and planning skills with focus on expense management.
  • Experience building and leading a high-performing management team; track record of forging new business opportunities.
  • Ability to travel regionally and nationally as needed.
  • Strong commitment to reproductive rights and Planned Parenthood goals.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and decision-making skills; commitment to efficiency and quality.
  • Comfort discussing sexuality, contraception, STDs, and pregnancy options; ability to handle sensitive situations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ability to collaborate across functional areas.
  • Proven ability to achieve objectives across departments; ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to lead and work effectively in a remote environment; maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
