Job description

NYU Langone Health seeks a highly skilled and experienced Chief of Thoracic Surgery to lead the Thoracic Surgery Division at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader dedicated to expanding thoracic surgical services, enhancing patient outcomes, and fostering academic and clinical excellence in a dynamic healthcare environment. New York University at Langone Health is ranked the number 1 hospital in New York State and holds the number 1 position nationally in pulmonology and lung surgery according to U.S. News & World Report.

Responsibilities

* Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Thoracic Surgery Division at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, ensuring excellence in clinical care, education, and research.
* Develop and expand the thoracic surgery program, enhance regional access to advanced thoracic care and strengthened NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn's reputation as a leading center for minimally invasive and robotic-assisted thoracic surgery.
* Lead the growth of referral networks and establish partnerships with community providers, affiliated hospitals, and regional healthcare organizations to drive programmatic expansion.
* Develop and expand minimally invasive and robotic-assisted thoracic surgery programs,
including VATS and robotic lobectomy, esophagectomy, and mediastinal procedures.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary team in pulmonology, oncology, radiology, and critical care to enhance the comprehensive management of thoracic malignancies, lung diseases, and esophageal disorders.
* Drive quality improvement initiatives to optimize patient outcomes, surgical efficiencies, and institutional compliance with best practices and national guidelines.
* Maintain an active clinical practice focused on thoracic oncology, benign and malignant esophageal diseases.
* Represent NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in regional and national conferences, professional societies, and academic collaborations.
* Actively participate in the institutional tumor board, contributing to multidisciplinary cancer care discussions and aligning surgical plans with overall oncologic strategies.
* Collaborate closely with thoracic surgery leadership at the main campus to ensure alignment in clinical protocols, strategic planning, and academic integration.
* Demonstrate the ability to expand by recruiting a second thoracic surgeon within the next 2-3 years, contingent on appropriate programmatic growth and institutional support.

* Board certification in Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) is required.
* Proven leadership experience in an academic or high-volume medical center, with a track record of program development and administrative leadership.
* Extensive experience in minimally invasive and robotic thoracic surgery, including lung cancer surgery, esophageal surgery, and mediastinal procedures.
* A strong commitment to teaching, mentoring, and developing faculty and trainees.
* Demonstrated expertise in clinical research, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives.
* Eligibility for unrestricted NYS medical licensure.
