Job summary

Amgen is seeking a Chief of Staff for Enterprise AI & Data Science to partner with the VP and lead strategic planning, portfolio management, and organizational readiness across AI initiatives.

The role blends strategy, operations, communications, and delivery in a high-visibility environment. You will drive annual planning, coordinate cross-functional efforts, and shape the operating rhythms to accelerate impact.

Qualifications

• Doctorate with 4+ years in strategy, operations, or consulting.
• OR Master’s degree with 7+ years experience.
• OR Bachelor’s degree with 9+ years relevant experience.
• MBA or advanced degree in strategy/management preferred.
• Experience in life sciences, biotech, or AI/data-driven orgs.
• Strong executive presence, judgment, and communication.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a thought partner to executive leadership; drive execution on priorities.
• Coordinate yearly planning activities: portfolio strategy, headcount forecasting, budgeting.
• Shape and run annual operating rhythms (QBRs, portfolio reviews, LT offsites, staff meetings, readouts).
• Manage day-to-day execution of departmental strategy and cross-functional priorities.
• Own agenda planning and facilitation for leadership meetings and offsites.
• Connect AI&D leaders; track initiatives and ensure alignment across AI & Data Science.
• Oversee internal AI & Data Science portfolio prioritization and requests.
• Drive internal communications, cultural rituals, and cross-department engagement.
• Support organizational design: new roles, staff transitions, capability mapping.
• Partner with Finance, HR, Tech and Comms for budget and talent strategies.
• Lead departmental communications strategy and content calendar; exec updates.
• Coordinate with Product and Program Leads for intake, prioritization and delivery.

Chief of Staff, Enterprise AI & Data Science

What you will do

This leader will play a central role in orchestrating strategic planning, portfolio management, operational excellence, cross-functional alignment, and organizational readiness across AI & Data Science initiatives.

This is a high-impact, high-visibility role ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, matrixed environments and can move seamlessly between strategy, operations, communications, and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Planning

• Serve as a thought partner to executive leadership; drive execution on departmental priorities and long-range planning.

• Coordinate yearly planning activities, including portfolio strategy, headcount forecasting, and budgeting.

• Shape and run annual operating rhythms (QBRs, portfolio reviews, LT offsites, staff meetings, and readouts).

Chief of Staff

• Manage day-to-day execution of departmental strategy, supporting cross-functional priorities, key decisions, and follow-through.

• Own agenda planning, coordination, and facilitation for leadership meetings and offsites.

• Serve as the connective tissue across AI&D leaders, tracking key initiatives and ensuring alignment.

Organizational Operations

• Manage the internal AI & Data Science portfolio & prioritization of requests for AI agents & applications across the company.

• Drive internal communications, cultural rituals, time tracking and cross-departmental engagement.

• Support organizational design activities, including new roles, staff transitions, and capability mapping.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Finance, HR, Tech, and Comms to support budget, talent, and engagement strategies.

• Lead departmental communications strategy and content calendar, including newsletters, events, and executive updates.

• Coordinate closely with Product and Program Leads to support project intake, prioritization, and delivery oversight.
