Our client is a Los Angeles-based AI company building specialized infrastructure for frontier AI development, partnering with leading technology organizations to advance the capabilities of modern AI systems. Company name and details will be shared with qualified candidates.
About the Role
Our client, a high-growth AI company scaling across multiple commercial and research business lines, is hiring a senior Chief of Staff to the CEO. The Office of the CEO is the strategic nerve center of the company, and this role will act as a force multiplier for the CEO and an operational bridge across the executive team. This is an institutional leadership role, not a personal assistant seat. Operating with formal delegated authority, you'll triage and resolve cross-functional issues, route decisions to accountable owners, manage the executive decision queue, and ensure the CEO's strategic commitments translate into tracked outcomes. You'll also lead the Executive Assistant and partner closely with a Junior Chief of Staff.
Responsibilities
- Executive Triage & Delegated Resolution
- Resolve cross-functional inquiries directly, route functional matters to the right department heads, and ensure only high-leverage decisions reach the CEO.
- Decision Queue & Commitment Tracking
- Maintain an Executive Decision & Commitment Register, quantify the cost of delay, and drive every commitment to completion.
- Executive Briefing & Decision Prep
- Ensure the CEO enters every board, investor, partner, and leadership meeting with a concise brief, vetted options, and a clear recommendation.
- Special Projects & Incubation
- Lead high-priority cross-functional initiatives without a permanent home, then transition ownership to department leads.
- Office of the CEO Management
- Direct the EA on calendar strategy, inbox prioritization, and signature queues; align with the Junior Chief of Staff on portfolio initiatives.
- Board, Investor & Partner Communications
- Draft publication-ready board updates, investor memos, and partner correspondence.
- Confidentiality & Governance
- Handle sensitive commercial, financial, legal, and personnel matters with absolute discretion.
Your First 90 Days
- Day 30: Audit all inbound workflows to the CEO, establish a Delegation of Authority matrix, and launch the Executive Decision Queue.
- Day 60: Measurably reduce routine escalations to the CEO; every open executive commitment has a named owner and target date.
- Day 90: Reclaim the majority of the CEO's time for strategy, board/investor relations, and key partnerships.
Interview Process
- Introductory call (30 min)
- Deep-dive operational interview (45 min)
- Practical executive inbox & triage simulation
- In-person working session with the CEO in Los Angeles + reference checks
Qualifications
- 5+ years as a Chief of Staff, management consultant, investment professional, or senior startup operator working directly with a Founder/CEO.
Required Skills
- A proven track record of exercising real delegated authority, with specific examples of unblocking complex cross-functional initiatives and aligning senior stakeholders.
- Exceptional executive judgment: clarity on what needs the CEO vs. what should be resolved or delegated immediately.
- Outstanding writing: board-level memos, investor updates, and commercial briefs in the CEO's voice.
- Commitment to working in person at the company's Los Angeles HQ.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in high-growth B2B tech, AI/ML, data infrastructure, or healthcare technology.
- Experience managing direct reports (EAs or rotational associates) within an Office of the CEO.
