Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in West Haven, CT invites applications for Chief of Anesthesia. The role oversees the anesthesia service, supervises physicians and CRNAs, and ensures high quality patient care across surgical services.

The ideal candidate is board-certified in Anesthesia, with substantial leadership experience and a track record of program development within VA or academic medical settings. Monday–Friday schedule with on-call coverage as required.

Qualifications

• United States citizenship as required by VA policy.
• MD or equivalent in allopathic/osteopathic medicine from an approved school.
• Current full and unrestricted medical license in the US.
• Residency training in Anesthesia and board eligibility/certification.
• Board certification by ABA is required for faculty status where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Chief of Anesthesia and supervise physicians and CRNAs.
• Provide direct medical care and oversee anesthesia services across the clinic and OR.
• Plan daily assignments, conduct staff meetings, and ensure compliance with VA policies.
• Manage on-call coverage, maintain clinical privileges, and support quality initiatives.
