Job summary

Encompass Health is seeking a Chief Nursing Officer to lead nursing strategy across our 150+ inpatient rehabilitation hospitals. The role focuses on delivering compassionate, high-quality care and building a patient-centered culture while meeting organizational goals and regulatory standards.

The CNO will collaborate with medical, clinical, and therapeutic teams, develop care programs, and serve on key governance committees. A strong leadership background in inpatient settings is essential.

Qualifications

• Must hold current RN licensure as required by state regulations.
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.
• CRRN certification within 12 months of eligibility.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field; higher degree preferred.
• Advanced degree or equivalent knowledge/skills.
• Five years of inpatient hospital experience.
• Two years of nursing management experience with 24-hour accountability and budget oversight.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with medical, clinical, and therapeutic teams to foster a patient-focused culture.
• Develop patient care programs, policies, and procedures for nursing care.
• Represent nursing on committees such as Governing Body and Quality Council.
• Support a diverse, inclusive, and respectful work environment.
• Lead staff empowerment, performance measurement, and goal attainment.
• Implement Joint Commission, CMS, state, and rehabilitation nursing standards.
• Utilize staffing matrices and data to manage NHPPD and budgeting.
• Celebrate staff and patient achievements.
