Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. seeks a Chief Metallurgist to lead all technical and metallurgical quality aspects for the TIMET Toronto production department. This role ensures the product meets customer requirements and drives process capability improvements.

Relocation is authorized; ITAR/EAR considerations may apply. A four-year degree in metals or materials and at least five years in metals processing (titanium experience preferred) are expected.

Responsibilities

• Ensure product is capable of meeting customer requirements.
• Ensure customer approval and fixed practice requirements are followed.
• Optimize processes for cost and operational efficiency.
• Plan DOEs and MPEs to improve process capability.
• Facilitate material movement through the department with Operations and Planning.
• Develop subcontractor approvals and process routes with OSC.
• Coordinate introduction of new products or processes with ADT into standard production.
• Define product process capability and ensure contract reviews acknowledge orders with proven capability.
• Review non-standard orders and poor process capability orders.
• Review basis specifications and consult with tech edit on capabilities versus requirements.
• Define test requirements and maintain FTP databases addressing non-conformance.
• Manage customer relationships and resolve technical questions/ complaints.
• Develop strong relationships with customer counterparts and participate in visits/audits.
• Provide technical leadership, supervise and mentor metallurgists, and educate production personnel.
• Liaise with research, sales and applications teams on new product/process development.
• Facilitate communication to achieve company and plant goals.

Job description

This position is responsible for all technical and metallurgical quality aspects of the products manufactured by the TIMET Toronto production department in which the Chief Metallurgist operates.

Essential Functions

• Ensuring that the product is capable of meeting the customer requirements.
• Ensuring that the customer approval and fixed practice requirements are followed.
• Ensuring that the processes are optimized for cost and operational efficiency.
• Planning DOE’s and MPE’s to improve process capability.
• Working with the Operations and Planning group to facilitate material movement through the department.
• Working with the OSC to develop subcontractor approvals and agree process routes.
• Working with the ADT to Coordinate the introduction of new products or processes into standard production.
• Define product process capability and ensure that contract review process results in acknowledgement of orders that have proven capability, or that appropriate exceptions or risks (in case of developmental products or process) are communicated:
• Review non-standard orders and poor process capability orders.
• Review basis specifications and consult with tech edit on capabilities versus requirements.
• Define test requirements.
• Maintain FTP databases and address causes of non-conformance.
• Manage the customer relationships
• Comment and negotiate on specification technical requirements.
• Provide resolution to customer technical questions/problems
• Answer customer complaints of a technical nature.
• Manage customer process qualifications, approvals and metallurgical offers.
• Develop strong relationships with counterparts at customers and end users.
• Participate in customer visits and audits and appropriately address resultant actions.
• Provide technical leadership within the department:
• Supervise, train and develop product metallurgists.
• Educate production personnel in metallurgical and quality assurance requirements.
• Liaise with research group, sales and applications development team(s) on new product/process development.
• Facilitate communication and achievement of company and plant goals and objectives

Education and Experience

Four year Bachelors degree in a metals or materials discipline
