We are a well-established, privately owned, Fear Free Certified small animal hospital with a long-standing reputation for providing exceptional veterinary care and building lasting relationships with our clients and their pets.

We are looking for a veterinarian who is passionate about practicing high-quality medicine but is equally passionate about leadership, mentorship, and helping others succeed.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to make a meaningful impact on a veterinary hospital, lead a talented team of doctors, and work closely with hospital ownership and management to help shape the future of our practice.

About Community Animal Hospital

Our hospital offers a wide range of medical and surgical services, including preventative care, urgent and sick visits, general and orthopedic surgery, advanced dentistry, diagnostic ultrasound, digital radiology, digital dental imaging, and comprehensive laboratory testing.

We have a dedicated and experienced support staff, modern medical equipment, and a collaborative environment where teamwork and compassionate care are at the heart of everything we do.

We are conveniently located near the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University and Veterinary Emergency Group, providing excellent access to specialty referrals and emergency care.

About the Role

As our Chief Medical Officer, you will serve as the primary medical leader of our veterinary team, providing clinical guidance, mentorship, accountability, and oversight of medical standards throughout the hospital.

You will work directly with our hospital owner, Dr. Shari Morana, and our Practice Manager to ensure that our medical team has the leadership, resources, and support needed to provide exceptional patient care.

This is a hands‑on position that combines practicing veterinary medicine with meaningful leadership responsibilities.

We want someone who is comfortable making decisions, addressing challenges, supporting their colleagues, and helping create an environment where our veterinarians and support staff can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary medical leader and supervisor of our associate veterinarians.

  • Establish and maintain consistent standards of medical care, clinical protocols, and medical record documentation.

  • Provide guidance and oversight regarding medical decisions, case management, and quality of patient care.

  • Address medical performance concerns professionally and constructively, working with ownership and practice management when appropriate.

  • Help ensure compliance with veterinary regulations, professional standards, and hospital policies.

  • Promote evidence-based medicine, Fear Free practices, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Veterinarian Development & Mentorship

  • Mentor and support associate veterinarians in their clinical and professional development.

  • Conduct regular doctor meetings, provide feedback, and encourage open communication.

  • Participate in veterinarian performance evaluations and help establish professional development goals.

  • Encourage collaboration, teamwork, and the sharing of medical knowledge.

  • Assist with the recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and retention of veterinarians.

  • Foster a positive, respectful, and accountable medical team culture.

Hospital Leadership & Collaboration

  • Work closely with hospital ownership and practice management on medical operations, staffing, and strategic planning.

  • Serve as the liaison between the veterinary team and hospital leadership.

  • Collaborate on improving workflows, efficiency, communication, and the overall patient and client experience.

  • Help identify opportunities to expand medical services and advance the hospital's capabilities.

  • Participate in leadership discussions and contribute to decisions that support the hospital's long‑term success.

  • Balance excellent medical care with responsible and sustainable practice operations.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Maintain an active role in providing high-quality medical and surgical care to patients.

  • Demonstrate excellent communication and client service skills.

  • Serve as a clinical resource for veterinarians and support staff.

  • Advanced surgical and dental skills, including digital dental radiology interpretation and complex extractions, are highly desirable.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a confident, approachable leader who can earn the respect and trust of their colleagues through strong medical knowledge, professionalism, communication, and a genuine commitment to helping others succeed.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A DVM or VMD degree from an accredited veterinary program.

  • A Massachusetts veterinary license in good standing.

  • Significant clinical experience in small animal general practice.

  • Previous experience in veterinary leadership, management, or mentorship preferred.

  • Strong clinical judgment and the ability to provide guidance on complex medical cases.

  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to lead difficult conversations, provide constructive feedback, and hold team members accountable.

  • A collaborative leadership style and willingness to work closely with hospital ownership and management.

  • A commitment to maintaining a positive workplace culture and providing exceptional veterinary care.

Benefits include:
