Chief Medical Officer – Beth Israel Deaconess Needham

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Needham (BID Needham) is a rapidly growing community hospital serving the southwest and metro west suburbs of Boston. It has served residents in Needham, Newton, Dedham, Dover, Medfield, Sherborn, Wellesley, Westwood, and surrounding communities for over 100 years.

Position Summary

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO), reporting to the President, is responsible for developing and monitoring clinical practice standards, overseeing the quality of care, and managing medical staff relations. The role includes ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, leading quality improvement initiatives, and fostering collaboration among medical staff and hospital leadership. The CMO also maintains clinical practice, with a clinical FTE offset, and participates in system-wide initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Resource to the medical staff, mediating conflicts and implementing policies.
  • Assist in clinical development and network expansion efforts.
  • Serve as the Patient Care Assessment Coordinator and participate in quality and safety committees.
  • Lead clinical efforts to improve care quality, throughput, and efficiency.
  • Oversee medical staff operations and outpatient clinics.
  • Support utilization review and participate in quality and safety meetings.
  • Promote a culture of respect, collaboration, and satisfaction among staff.
Required Qualifications
  • Medical Doctorate, ABMS certification, and MA license.
  • At least 10 years of clinical practice and 5 years of management experience.
  • Master’s degree in Business, Public Health, or Health Administration preferred.
Competencies
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of healthcare policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to work respectfully with diverse teams and provide excellent customer service.
