Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Mechanical Design Chief Engineer for Space Exploration Applications in Houston. Lead a large mechanical design team and oversee reviews, risk management, and project health to deliver complex space hardware for NASA programs.

Applicants should have 5+ years of NASA/JSC hardware experience, strong CAD skills (CREO/SolidWorks/Pro/ENGINEER), and a proven track record in leading engineers and delivering milestones on time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years' NASA/JSC mechanical hardware development experience.
• Experience with CAD software: CREO, Pro/ENGINEER or SolidWorks.
• Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 and Y14.100 standards.
• Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Experience leading mechanical design task leads and teams.
• Strong communication and organizational skills for senior management interactions.
• Experience with hardware packaging and electronics integration.
• Ability to develop ROMs and BOEs for projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct technical oversight of ~100 engineers and technicians.
• Perform mechanical design reviews for cost, schedule, risk, and deliverables.
• Mentor and guide design task leads; track performance and outcomes.
• Coordinate cross-organizational issue resolution across NASA centers.
• Establish and enforce technical correctness and design processes.
