Job summary

Harvard Library seeks a Director of Information & Technical Services to lead ITS operations, staff and budget, shaping technical services policies and strategy. You will oversee metadata creation, acquisitions management, and e‑resources and drive collaboration across multiple ITS sections to support Harvard’s mission.

The role requires strong leadership in a large, distributed library system and a track record of transforming technical services with a focus on user needs and innovation.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in library and information science (ALA‑accredited).
• Minimum of five years of directly related experience in technical services within academic libraries.
• Minimum three years of experience leading and managing librarians and/or staff.
• Experience managing complex budgets.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Information & Technical Services department and provide strategic direction for ITS operations.
• Oversee staffing, budgets, and cross‑functional collaboration across monographic, e‑resources, metadata, and acquisitions teams.
• Set priorities for metadata processing, licensing, project planning and policy development.
• Collaborate with library leadership to align ITS activities with Harvard Library initiatives.
