Job summary

Gelber Group in Chicago, Illinois seeks a General Counsel to lead the Legal function and partner with the executive team on strategic initiatives. You will provide commercially grounded legal advice, shape governance, and manage major agreements across the firm.

You will oversee regulatory matters, employment issues, and outside counsel, ensuring practical, business-aligned risk management while supporting Gelber's growth and culture.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school; licensed or eligible in Illinois.
• 10–20 years of legal experience, in-house and/or regulatory.
• Experience with sophisticated financial markets, proprietary trading, or related environments.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Gelber's chief legal advisor to the executive team.
• Lead the Legal and Compliance functions; guide strategy and governance.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial, technology, licensing, employment, and vendor agreements.
• Oversee regulatory inquiries, investigations, and enforcement matters.
• Protect Gelber's IP, data, and competitive assets; manage outside counsel.
