Job summary

City of Raleigh is seeking a dynamic Director for the Historic Resources and Museums Program within the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department. The role leads historic sites, museums, and cultural venues, directing staff, complex projects, and significant budgets while partnering with city advisory boards and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate brings 7–9 years in art history, historic preservation, or museum management, with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Art, Art History, Historic Preservation, History, Museum Studies, or related field.
• Master’s degree preferred in Historic Preservation, History or Museum Studies.
• 7–9 years of experience in art history, historic preservation, or museum management.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and evaluates assigned employees; manages schedules and training.
• Directs HRM portfolio including sites, museums and attractions; oversees financial and operational decisions.
• Oversees grants, art programs, contracts, and MOUs with outside agencies.
• Prepares and administers budgets; manages revenues and expenses for cultural programs.
