Job summary

ACEC Minnesota, the statewide association for consulting engineering firms, seeks a Director of Government Affairs to lead advocacy strategy and relationships with legislators and agencies in Minnesota. This role requires owning a legislative portfolio, directing lobbying efforts, and coordinating with the CEO and ACEC National on policy priorities.

The position is full-time, exempt, based in downtown Saint Paul, with a starting salary of $95,000–$115,000 and a benefits package including health

Qualifications

• Own legislative or regulatory portfolio and lobbying experience.
• Experience leading coalitions and advocacy teams.
• Knowledge of Minnesota legislative process, procurement, and policy development.
• Strong analytical writing and deadline-driven reporting.
• Judgment to balance advocacy with organizational priorities.

Responsibilities

• Develop annual legislative agenda with CEO and oversee its execution.
• Analyze legislation impacting engineering firms and procurement practices.
• Represent ACEC Minnesota at the Capitol with legislators and staff.
• Produce end-of-session summaries and interim analyses.
• Co-own relationships with MnDOT and other agencies and monitor rulemaking proceedings.
• Build and manage coalitions on shared priorities.
• Staff the government affairs committee and support PAC activities.
• Coordinate with ACEC National priorities and federal activities.
• Brief the CEO with analysis for decision making and prepare member communications.
