Zap Energy in Everett, WA is seeking an exceptional Senior Vice President of Fission Technology to lead end-to-end nuclear reactor development from licensing through deployment. The role reports to the CEO and requires steering the technical vision, licensing strategy, and commercialization of the fission program.

Ideal candidates bring deep reactor design expertise, a proven ability to build and lead large multidisciplinary teams, and a strong regulatory track record with NRC engagement.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressively senior experience in nuclear engineering and reactor design/safety analysis.
  • Experience taking a nuclear system from concept through licensed operation or commercial production.
  • Deep familiarity with the U.S. NRC regulatory framework (10 CFR Parts 50 & 52) and licensing processes.
  • Proven track record building and leading large (50+), multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field (MS/PhD).
  • U.S. citizenship or ability to obtain security clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the fission technology roadmap aligned with the company strategy.
  • Lead NRC licensing strategy and regulatory engagements with stakeholders.
  • Build and manage a large, multidisciplinary engineering organization.
  • Drive design-to-production phases including licensing, manufacturing readiness, and initial deployment.
  • Represent Zap Energy with customers, regulators, partners, and the broader nuclear community.
