Job summary

Zap Energy in Everett, Washington is seeking a Reactor Team Lead to guide the Zap Micro Reactor program from design through build and commissioning. You will lead an integrated product team, oversee core reactor components, fuel, vessel and control systems, and ensure alignment with safety case activities.

The role requires eight plus years in mechanical engineering related to complex systems, ASME BPVC, reactor analysis tools, and strong technical writing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or related ABET-accredited program.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience delivering complex systems including nuclear reactors.
  • Proficiency with ASME Codes & Standards, reactor physics, thermal hydraulics and transient analysis.
  • Experience using reactor analysis tools and producing design/calculation reports.
  • 2+ years of direct team leadership; PE license is a bonus.
  • Excellent technical writing and stakeholder communication.

Responsibilities

  • Lead reactor engineering and hardware delivery within an NQA-1 program and manage core components, fuel, internals, vessel and control systems.
  • Act as line manager; build and mentor the Reactor team and monitor performance metrics.
  • Perform engineering analyses, write high-quality documentation, plan work packages, and review supplier submittals.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure design/safety basis alignment and identify trade-offs.
  • Represent the technical side in supplier collaboration and QA activities.
