My client is a leading US heavy civil construction contractor and is seeking a strategic, hands‑on Chief Financial Officer to oversee the financial health and long‑term performance of the organization. This executive role is ideal for a construction finance leader with deep industry knowledge and experience supporting complex infrastructure operations.

The Role

They will be responsible for all financial aspects of the business, including financial strategy, reporting, risk management, and operational finance. The CFO will work closely with the President and executive team to drive profitability, support growth initiatives, and strengthen financial controls across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all financial functions, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
• Oversee job cost accounting, WIP reporting, cash flow management, and project financial controls
• Provide strategic financial guidance to executive leadership and operations teams
• Manage bonding, banking, insurance, and surety relationships
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and industry-specific requirements
• Support bid reviews, contract risk assessments, and margin analysis
• Develop and improve internal controls, systems, and financial processes
• Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team

Qualifications

• 12+ years of progressive financial leadership experience in US heavy civil or large‑scale construction
• Prior CFO, VP of Finance, or Controller experience within a construction contractor
• Strong understanding of construction accounting, WIP, percentage‑of‑completion, and job costing
• Experience working with sureties, lenders, and external auditorsProven ability to partner with operations and executive leadership
• Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred
