ProFound Executive Search is serving as an external search partner to Relay Resources in its search for its Chief Financial Officer. This position reports to the CEO, CDO, and President at Relay Resources; the position also has dotted-line reporting to the General Manager at Relay Resources.

Position Summary

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a strategic and operational leader who will play a critical role in helping Relay Resources strengthen its financial operations through an important period of organizational growth. A leader skilled in transformations, the CFO will partner closely with the CEO and Executive Team to modernize financial systems, improve operational efficiency, build scalable processes, and develop financial strategies that support Relay’s expanding social enterprise model and long-term sustainability. This leader will combine a deep commitment to Relay’s mission with the financial discipline, operational rigor, and strategy needed to enable disciplined growth and innovation.

Note: Over time, this role will eventually lead the following areas: contracts & compliance, procurement, risk management, M&A and entity structure management, and asset management of the affordable housing portfolio.

Position Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
  • Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and Board on financial strategy, planning, and performance
  • Lead long-term financial modeling and scenario planning to support organizational growth
  • Align financial strategy with organizational mission and social impact goals; influence cross-functional priorities
  • Support emerging business ventures, including new revenue-generating initiatives, while ensuring financial sustainability and scalable operating models
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the Finance Committee and Board, providing financial guidance, creative solutions for growth, transparent communication regarding financial risks, and recommendations to strengthen long-term sustainability
  • Translate financial and impact data into actionable insights; present concise narratives to the Board and committees.
  • Develop rolling forecasts, scenario planning, and executive dashboards
  • Lead and develop a team of finance professionals to create a high-performing, mission-centered function
  • Build a high-performing finance team; foster digital skills; collaborate across Operations, People, and Technology
  • Develop talent, set clear expectations, foster accountability, and make staffing decisions to ensure team effectiveness
  • Lead organizational design and cross-functional initiatives
  • Lead organizational change initiatives related to finance operations, systems adoption, process redesign, and team capability building
  • Serve as an external ambassador for the organization, demonstrating commitment to Relay’s disability inclusion mission, and credibility within the broader business and civic community
Accounting Operations

Lead all accounting functions, including:

  • Accounts Payable (A/P)
  • Employee Expense Reimbursements
  • Accounts Receivable (A/R)
  • General Ledger (G/L)
  • Payroll
  • Local, State, and Federal Taxes
  • Financial statement preparation

Ensure timely financial reporting, in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes
  • Lead pricing analysis to optimize pricing models and margins
  • Develop dashboards and performance metrics to track organizational health
  • Support programmatic and enterprise-level financial decision-making in the Data Ecosystem (NetSuite) project implementation
Digital Finance & Data Transformation
  • Partner closely with the Chief Technology Officer to design and implement scalable financial and operational data systems
  • Champion ERP/FP&A modernization; enable self-service analytics; leverage AI for forecasting and variance analysis
  • Lead adoption and optimization of NetSuite, improving user adoption, data integrity, reporting capabilities, and cross-functional decision support
  • Lead continued adoption of the ERP implementation (e.g., NetSuite), data governance initiatives, and analytics adoption
  • Own and optimize the financial systems, policies, and processes, with a focus on NetSuite, and other accounting, treasury, and financial systems required to meet the organization’s needs
  • Ensure data integrity, reporting accuracy, and system scalability
  • Partner cross-functionally to integrate financial data with broader organizational systems
Treasury, Banking, and Internal Controls
  • Manage cash flow, liquidity, and investment strategies
  • Develop and manage banking relationships and financial risk management
  • Ensure timely bank covenant and compliance reporting
  • Ensure strong systems of internal controls and financial safeguards in all financial policies and procedures
Audit & Compliance
  • Lead annual financial audits and ensure audit readiness year-round; prepare and file the IRS Form 990
  • Maintain compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in senior finance roles, including controllership, FP&A, and / or finance operations
  • Experience operating in complex multi-entity and shared services environments
  • Experience leading financial systems implementation or optimization, including ERP platforms such as NetSuite or comparable ERP systems
  • Experience with debt financing or large capital project financing
  • Experience building, leading, and developing high-performing, diverse teams
  • Experience as a senior finance leader who is a trusted partner to an Executive Leadership team, Board, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • Experience working in a social enterprise, startup, or high-growth organization with proven ability to demonstrate entrepreneurial mindset, resourcefulness, and agility
Salary Range

$200,000 - $250,000
