POSITION DESCRIPTION

Hours : Monday - Friday (weekends and evenings as needed)

Salary : $155,000 - $170,000 / yr. DOE

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of the financial functions of the agency and reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The Chief Financial Officer promotes constant improvement of the agency’s financial standing. As a senior member of the agency’s leadership team, the Chief Financial Officer secures the functionality and efficiency of the agency’s financial operations, ensuring accountability and advancing equity. This is a full time, exempt, unrepresented position.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages the day-to-day activities of the finance and accounting department, sets department goals to help achieve agency goals and objectives, and fosters a culture of high performance and accountability.
  • Advises and supports the senior leadership team in sustaining the overall financial and accounting health of the agency by developing, updating and implementing finance and accounting related policies, process procedures and controls over financial reporting and performance.
  • Develops annual financial plan and budget to support the strategic objectives of the agency and gain Board of Directors approval, leads all monthly close activities, annual audits, and internal management and external reporting requirements.
  • Supervises the Finance Department staff and supports their professional development.
  • Develops and refines an accounting system that provides senior staff and the Board with quick access to financial information and enables strategic budgeting.
  • Identifies growth opportunities and sets comprehensive performance and growth goals for the agency’s Finance Department, empowering it with the leadership and resources it needs to successfully meet its goals.
  • Evaluates financial performance through standard finance and business metrics, dashboards and sound financial and business analysis.
  • Uses in-depth knowledge of risk management methods to create forecasting models.
  • Ensures all financial operations comply with federal and state laws.
  • Participates in meetings of the Board and its Finance Committee; presents information and analysis necessary to the work of those bodies.
  • Establishes themselves as a thought leader, collaborating with the leadership team to develop and support strategic direction, identifying and remediating business risk.
  • Performs ad hoc finance and business analysis to include, among other things : activity- based costing, contracting, real estate financing and leasing, staff modeling and collective bargaining, benchmarking, pricing, and other duties assigned.
  • Responsible for recommending a qualified external audit firm, overseeing annual audit, and ensuring U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Standards (USGAAP) are understood and followed.
  • In partnership with the Director of Regulatory and Workforce Compliance and other senior leaders, contributes to development, implementation, and evaluation of agency workforce initiatives.
  • Participates on committees and contributes to special initiatives, as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Each Transition Projects employee must :

  • Acquire First Aid / CPR / AED certification within 30 days of hire and be retested biannually thereafter throughout employment.
  • Complete Bloodborne Pathogens and Narcan Training within 30 days of hire and be retested annually thereafter throughout employment.
  • Demonstrate reliability by being present for work as scheduled, arriving and leaving on time and taking breaks in expected time frames.
  • Interact effectively with persons of diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, cultural backgrounds, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.
  • Attend agency and program staff meetings.

PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Hearing and vision adequate for interaction with participants, interaction with staff and interaction with the general public.

  • Hand and finger dexterity adequate to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to walk, bend, stand, sit, reach, stoop, pull, climb stairs, and squat.
  • Ability to work for extended periods at a computer workstation, and to operate office machinery.
  • Ability to perform CPR and other emergency life-saving care with the assistance of teammates until emergency responders arrive.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE :

  • Master’s degree in a related field strongly preferred + 7-9 years of experience of progressive financial management experience OR 10-15 years of progressive financial management experience.
  • CPA license preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an emphasis on communication, knowledge sharing, negotiation, and team building.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to work effectively with all levels throughout the organization and across functional lines, and to provide strong mentoring and coaching support to teammates with diverse levels of expertise.
  • Excellent planning, management and organizational skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (USGAAP), and internal and external financial reporting, including : income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statements, NPV / ROI analysis, external benchmarking, controls over financial reporting, performance metrics implementation and organizational dashboards management.
  • Proven track record of success facilitating progressive organizational change and growth.
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives.
