Our client is a construction company looking for a Chief Financial Officer. They have two main offices: one in Rockland County, NY and one in Manhattan and the CFO will have the option of working out of either. The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for managing and leading the financial initiatives of the company, the company’s financial accounting, risk, capital management, long term financial planning, & capital and program budgeting. The Chief Financial Officer has day-to-day, ongoing impact on company operations, helping to analyze, strategize, and grow the company’s financial position. As a member of senior management, the CFO will be comfortable in a leadership role that requires clear and effective communication skills.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Drive the company’s financial planning.
- Manage the company’s current and future financial risk-driving strategies to safeguard company assets and ensure financial health.
- Perform risk management by analyzing the organization’s liabilities and investments.
- Provide data-driven recommendations for improving company performance, efficiency, profitability, and integrity of company’s financial information.
- Assist the C-Suite with:
- Effectuating positive cultural and operational change to meet company growth.
- Developing proactive company strategies.
- Driving project and company profitability.
- Ensuring that financial operations align with the company’s mission, vision, and long-term goals.
- Oversee accurate and timely financial reporting ensuring compliance with GAAP and industry regulations.
- Play an active role in high level financial analysis and strategy in monthly BU Dashboard Reports to leadership.
- Direct accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state corporate laws as well as all company policies.
- Recommend improvements to ensure the integrity of the company’s financial information in financial planning, reporting, and analysis.
- Manage relationships with investors and investment institutions.
- Identify and manage business risks and insurance requirements.
- Manage the company’s annual budget process.
- Prepare a detailed budget for $500M company.
- Ensure that interim and annual financial reports are timely and accurate.
- Manage company accounts receivables and accounts payables.
- Manage the company’s finance IT system, oversee implementations and upgrades.
- Collaborate with chief information officer on technology decisions.
- Provide strategic management of the accounting and finance functions.
- Manage, mentor, guide and help develop 25-member financial team fostering professional growth and high performance
- Lead the transition of the accounting team to support revenue growth
- Oversee hiring, training, and retain skilled accounting and finance staff.
- Partner with HR leadership on strategic planning to ensure workforce alignment with company objectives.
- Assist HR to inspire, develop and reward employees based on performance metrics and company goals.
- Maximizing the use of technology in the Accounting Department to streamline, simplify and make more efficient financial reporting and operational efficiencies.
- Stay current with US financial issues as well as areas of the Country that the Company provides services (i.e., companies in the industry as well as the companies in market segments served).
- Ad hoc reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing professional staff.
- Supervise, evaluate, and manage the work assignments and work product of direct reports.
- Manage, and support staff members to maximize performance and career potential. Assist in the training and development of all staff.
- Regularly review the performance of all direct reports, including leading the formal (mid-year and year-end) reviews and make recommendations regarding staffing, promotions, developmental needs, position evaluations, and compensation.
- Develop a succession plan for key positions, as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA & CPA a plus.
- 15+ years of experience in construction finance, with a minimum of 5 years in a CFO, controller or senior financial role in a corporate environment.
- Construction Industry experience required.
- Solid working knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- In depth knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices.
- Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
- Ability to strategize and solve problems.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and people skills.
- Understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues, and tax planning.
- Working knowledge of how to raise capital outside traditional lines of credit.
