Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

With the President, Principal and the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees, the Chief Financial Officer is responsible for establishing and managing the school budget, managing all accounting aspects of the school, including school payroll, employee benefits, government reports, audit management and compliance, capital projects management, insurance and investments management. In addition to the financial management of the school, the CFO is the manager overseeing Human Resources, Facilities and Information Technology.

Specific Duties Related to Major Responsibilities:

School Budget: Collaborates with the President, Principal, Administrative Team members and Faculty Chairs to develop operating budgets. Prepare and propose budgets for Facilities and Capital Projects. Presents the budgets for approval to the Board of Trustees (BOT) Finance Committee.

Accounting Records: Maintains responsibility for all accounting records, prepares and presents balance sheets, income statements and investment reports and submits these documents to the BOT Finance Committee.

Human Resources: Working with the President and Principal, develops and offers employee annual contracts and ensures the accuracy and timeliness of payroll information in the payroll system by working with the Staff Accountant. Coordinates with contractors providing employee benefits, insurance and savings plans. Responsible for the effective internal communication of these plans to employees.

Government Reports: Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of all information required by government directives.

Audit Management and Compliance: Provides financial data and related information in support of the annual Financial audit. Fulfills any audit recommendations and ensures compliance with all audit procedures.

Capital Projects Management: In conjunction with the President and the Director of Facilities Management, manages all financial and accounting aspects of Capital Projects. Provides financial input and support to the selection of contractors providing services to IWA.

Investments Management: In conjunction with the President, the BOT Finance Committee and our investment/banking partners, ensures fiscal responsibility for all financial investment and operating accounts and that management of all investments are in compliance with IWA Investment Policies.

Employee Management: Directs the activities of the Staff Accountant, the Director of Information Technology and the Director of Maintenance and Physical Plant.

Student Financial Awards: Coordinates with the IWA Administration in the determination of merit scholarship awards. Provides students and their families financial awards based on their financial need and other factors. Responsible for tuition plans and collection.

Member of Finance Committee: Maintains relationships with key service providers (ie. Investments, Banking, Savings and Benefits plans, insurance plans, etc.) and schedules provider presentations to the BOT Finance Committee as appropriate.

Qualifications:

A minimum of 8+ years in Financial management and/or Accounting management

Depth of operational experience with financial software and financial management systems such as Blackbaud, Financial Edge Accounting and Paylocity Payroll software.

Experience working in or with non-profit organizations, educational institutions and particularly Catholic educational institutions is highly desired.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting and/or Finance. CPA and/or MBA preferred.
