Job description

PE-Backed CFO | Commercial Construction Services

Finatal has been exclusively retained by a private equity-backed commercial construction services business to appoint its next Chief Financial Officer.

Based in Denver, the company has operated for more than 40 years and has built a strong reputation across commercial roofing and related building services. The business currently generates approximately $60 million in revenue and $10 million in EBITDA, with a strategic plan to scale toward $250 million through a combination of organic growth and targeted acquisitions across the Rocky Mountain region and surrounding markets.

The CFO will partner closely with the President, COO, and private equity sponsor as a key member of the leadership team. This individual will professionalize financial reporting, build out the company’s FP&A capabilities, lead the ongoing implementation of NetSuite, and provide the financial leadership required to support profitable growth and M&A.

The incoming CFO will inherit an experienced accounting team and will be expected to introduce greater institutional rigor while preserving the collaborative, entrepreneurial culture that has contributed to the company’s long-term success.

This role is ideal for a hands-on CFO or accomplished #2 finance leader with project-based accounting experience who is comfortable operating close to the business and helping lead a significant growth strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the strategic finance partner to the President, COO, private equity sponsor, and Board of Directors
  • Lead and develop the existing accounting team while building the company’s FP&A capabilities
  • Establish scalable budgeting, forecasting, cash management, KPI reporting, and long-range planning processes
  • Enhance project-level reporting, job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP analysis, and profitability visibility
  • Lead board, lender, and sponsor reporting with the rigor expected in an institutional ownership environment
  • Support the implementation of NetSuite and improve connectivity across financial, project management, and operational systems
  • Partner with operational leadership on pricing, project profitability, working capital, and strategic decision-making
  • Play a central role in the company’s M&A strategy, including target identification, deal sourcing, financial diligence, valuation, execution, and integration
  • Build the finance organization, processes, controls, and reporting infrastructure required to support significant organic and acquisitive growth
Requirements
  • Previous CFO experience or a proven #2 finance leader ready to step into a CFO role
  • Experience in construction, building services, infrastructure services, or another project-based operating environment
  • Strong knowledge of percentage-of-completion accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, and multi-year projects
  • Meaningful hands-on M&A experience, including target evaluation, financial diligence, transaction execution, and post-close integration
  • Demonstrated ability to build FP&A, reporting, forecasting, and performance-management capabilities
  • Experience supporting an ERP implementation or broader financial systems transformation preferred
  • Private equity experience is preferred but not required; candidates must be comfortable working with a sophisticated Board and investor group
  • Collaborative, low-ego leadership style with the ability to build trust across an established management and accounting team
  • Comfortable operating as a hands-on finance leader in an entrepreneurial construction environment
  • Based in or willing to relocate to Denver, with an expectation of being in the office three to five days per week
