Job description

South Florida PBS is seeking a strategic and visionary Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team and help guide the financial future of one of the nation's leading public media organizations as it expands into new business ventures, immersive experiences, and innovative growth opportunities.

Reporting to the President & CEO, the CFO will oversee the financial health and long-term sustainability of South Florida PBS and its affiliated entities. As a key member of the executive leadership team, this individual will provide strategic direction for all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, treasury management, audits, compliance, investments, and risk management. The CFO will work closely with senior leadership, the Board of Directors, Finance and Audit Committees, and the Foundation Board to support informed decision-making and ensure financial strategies align with organizational priorities and long-term goals.

This role will lead the development of annual operating and capital budgets, oversee financial reporting and internal controls, maintain banking and investment relationships, and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The CFO will also play a critical role in evaluating and supporting new business opportunities, including immersive exhibits, location-based experiences, entrepreneurial ventures, strategic partnerships, and other innovative initiatives designed to diversify revenue and strengthen organizational sustainability. Through financial modeling, forecasting, and strategic analysis, the CFO will help assess the viability of emerging opportunities while balancing mission impact with sound business practices.

In addition, the CFO will oversee organizational risk management, insurance programs, retirement plan administration, and financial policies that protect the organization's assets and support operational excellence. The successful candidate will bring a collaborative leadership style, exceptional business judgment, and the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively to a wide range of stakeholders.

Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field and hold an active CPA designation. An MBA is preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of ten years of senior financial leadership experience with expertise in nonprofit accounting, financial planning and analysis, budgeting, treasury management, audits, compliance, and investment oversight. Experience working with Boards of Directors and supporting complex organizations through periods of growth and transformation is essential. Experience with for-profit ventures, entrepreneurial enterprises, start-up organizations, and location-based experiences (LBE) is highly desirable. Public media, nonprofit, or other mission-driven organization experience is preferred. Bilingual English and Spanish skills are a plus, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders across South Florida.

South Florida PBS is Florida's largest public media organization, serving diverse audiences through trusted content, educational initiatives, and innovative multimedia experiences. This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished financial executive to help shape the future of a mission-driven organization committed to informing, inspiring, and connecting the communities it serves.
