Job summary

Casey Trees in Washington, DC, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to lead finance, HR, administration, and development operations. You will partner with the Executive Director and Board on strategic financial planning, annual budgeting, and donor engagement, while ensuring GAAP compliance and strong internal controls.

The role requires 8–10+ years in financial management, nonprofit experience, and exceptional leadership. Evening/weekend availability may be required for events and planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Management, or related field.
• CPA, CMA, and/or MBA preferred.
• 8-10+ years of progressive financial management experience with 3+ years in a senior leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, grant management, GAAP, and OMB Uniform Guidance compliance.
• Experience supervising teams and presenting financial reports.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the ED and Board on financial strategy and growth.
• Develop and maintain multi-year financial models for the organization.
• Advise on programmatic decisions through a financial lens.
• Represent financial health to funders, auditors, and stakeholders.
• Lead annual budgeting and monthly/quarterly reporting.
• Oversee accounting operations and tax filings (Form 990).
• Monitor cash flow and internal controls; ensure compliance with GAAP and regulations.
• Drive fundraising strategy and manage donor relations across channels.
• Oversee Communications, HR, Admin, and Development teams.
