Job summary

Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity is seeking a Chief External Relations Officer to lead fundraising, communications, marketing, and government affairs across Northeast Ohio. You will partner with the President & CEO and the Board to advance visibility, engagement, and sustainability while expanding donor networks and community partnerships.

The role oversees a wide portfolio and requires a strategic, relationship-driven leader with nonprofit experience and a track record in grant funding.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, communications, or related field.
• Minimum seven years of external-facing leadership experience across fundraising, marketing, and communications.
• Three+ years of management leadership experience including hiring and performance management.
• Nonprofit sector experience is required.
• Ability to develop multi-year strategic plans with stakeholder buy-in.
• Experience in grant writing and securing diverse funding sources.
• Strong public speaking and relationship-management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and donor management systems.

Responsibilities

• Leads external communications, partnerships, policy advocacy, and fundraising.
• Collaborates with executive leadership to support business strategies.
• Aligns external engagement with strategic objectives and stakeholder needs.
• Oversees marketing plans to promote the organization’s message.
• Creates donor-centered strategies to grow support from various sources.
• Leads and manages all aspects of fundraising including major gifts and grants.
• Ensures compliance with fundraising principles and ethical standards.
• Represents the organization at public meetings and industry events.

Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or related field
