Job summary

Granite Construction is seeking a senior estimator with leadership experience to identify and pursue bid opportunities in the market. You will manage an estimating team, guide bid strategies, and ensure accurate cost estimates across earthwork, concrete, utilities, paving and structures.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, 10+ years of estimating, and 5+ years of management experience. Proficiency with BIDS, AGTEK and Primavera is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of estimating experience; 5+ years of management experience.
  • Experience in estimating earthwork, concrete, utility, paving, structures, and related functions.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, BIDS 2, AGTEK and Primavera; strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review estimates and lead bid reviews with senior management to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop and maintain relationships to increase bid opportunities in the local market.
  • Oversee estimating department budgets, staffing, and performance evaluations to meet corporate initiatives.
  • Provide input on project bid types and strategies to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Mentor estimating staff and enforce Granite standards.

We’re building more than infrastructure; we are building your future.General SummaryThis position is responsible for developing and identifying bid opportunities in a market area and managing an estimating team to ensure quality estimates on projects up to $50 million that support company objectives.Essential Job AccountabilitiesReview estimates and lead bid reviews with senior management to ensure accuracy and completeness.Develop and maintain business relationships to increase bid opportunities in the local market.Manage and administer estimating department functions including operating budgets, staffing, wage reviews, work assignments, performance evaluations to ensure corporate initiatives are met.Provide technical expertise in negotiating contracts and change orders as required, to make certain project objectives are met.Provide input to determine what types of projects to bid, pursue strategies, techniques, to ensure competitive pricing.Ensure pertinent information including material types and costs, construction methods and historical costs are tracked, archived, updated and used by other estimators to allow realistic and accurate estimates.Develop bid strategies and estimating best practices for securing core business work and exploring new opportunities for the business unit.Supervise, direct, and mentor estimating staff to ensure individual development and Granite standards are met.Analyze alternative solutions and construction methods to increase competitiveness of the bid.EducationBachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, related field or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.Work Experience10+ years of Estimating experience5+ years management experience requiredExperience in construction and estimating of earthwork, concrete, utility, paving, structures, and related functions.Knowledge, skills, and abilitiesProficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), BIDS 2, AGTEK and Primavera.Thorough knowledge of corporate objectives impacting estimating, market strategies and techniques, and contracts.Excellent organizational, supervisory, and decision making/problem solving skills essential.Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively disseminate information.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
