Job summary

Imperium Global is seeking a senior leader to own the estimating department and guide the bids for civil and heavy civil work in California. You will work with the executive team and operations to shape which projects to pursue, how they are priced, and how the estimating team grows.

The role

This is a senior leadership role. You’ll own the estimating department and oversee every bid that goes out. Working closely with the executive team and operations, you’ll shape which projects the business pursues, how they’re priced and how the estimating team grows.

What you’ll be doing

• Leading, mentoring and developing a team of estimators
• Overseeing all estimates and bids for civil and heavy civil work, including earthwork, grading, underground utilities and paving
• Reviewing and signing off final bid pricing, risk and margin with senior leadership
• Setting bid/no-bid strategy and keeping a strong pipeline of public and private work
• Building and maintaining relationships with owners, agencies, general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers
• Setting and improving estimating standards, processes and cost databases
• Managing project handovers to operations and reviewing estimate-to-actual performance
• Keeping track of market conditions, material pricing and labour trends across California

What they’re looking for

• 10+ years’ estimating experience in civil or heavy civil construction, including at least 3 years in a senior or lead role
• A proven record of winning and delivering profitable public works and private projects
• Deep knowledge of California public works bidding (Caltrans, municipal and agency work)
• Experience leading and developing estimating teams
• Advanced skills in estimating and take-off software (e.g. HCSS HeavyBid, B2W, Agtek, Bluebeam or similar)
• Strong commercial awareness, negotiation skills and communication skills
• A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related field is preferred
